Auf Shanghai hab ich mich ganz besonders gefreut. Eine gewisse Festivalmüdigkeit hat sich ja schon eingestellt, aber für einen Besuch in dieser Stadt nimmt man gerne auch einen 16h Flug hin. Am Start sind Jan, Sam (direkt aus Bangkok), Severin (der gerade in Shanghai studiert) und ich. Shanghai hat alle meine Erwartungen übertroffen. Hier schiessen die Wolkenkratzer nur so aus dem Boden. Es gibt tausend Chancen und Möglichkeiten. Hier ist die rasannte Entwicklung Chinas an jeder Ecke zu spüren. Es gibt grosse Gewinner, aber auch Verlierer. Jan lästert gerne über die Kommunistenführer, welche über Nacht alle ihre Prinzipien vergessen hätten. Trotzdem ist es beeindruckend, wie es ein Regime schafft eine so starke Wirtschaftsentwicklung zuzulassen und dabei trotzdem an der Macht zu bleiben. Auf unseren nächtlichen Streifzügen durch die Clubs (Severin knows them all) treffen wir viele Chinesen, welche extrem reich, extrem selbstbewusst und extrem gut aussehend sind.
Das Festivalprogramm ist umfangreich und unübersichtlich. Alle sind etwas überfordert. Deutschland ist mit einem speziellen Fokus sehr gut vertreten und in der Jury sitzt Michael Ballhaus, mit dem ich im April in Berlin einen Kurzfilm produzieren konnte. Das Festival selbst bietet für Produzenten spannende Sessions zum Thema Coproduktion mit China. Ich würde sofort in China einen Film produzieren, merke aber auch, dass die Sprachbarriere hier besonders hoch ist. Vor allem die Generationen aus der Zeit der Kulturrevolution können so gut wie kein Englisch. Selbst zum Taxifahren muss man sich vorher alles in chinesischen Zeichen aufschreiben lassen. Downtown werden wir zwar oft angesprochen: Watches, T-Shirts, DVDs? Und dann: Massage? Girls? Very beautiful! Wir halten uns an professionelle Fussmassage (mir tun danach zwar immer die Füsse weh) und empfehlen den Händlern sich lieber selbst gut um ihre Girls zu kümmern.
Am letzten Tag geniessen wir den Ausblick über die Skyline vom roten Teppich. Das Festival hat für die Closing ceremony an nichts gespart. Wir freuen uns über die Anwesenheit von Jackie Chan. Nach einem Besuch bei der Shanghai Film Group am nächsten Tag erwischen wir dann noch den letzten Transrapid (der hier Maglev heisst) und rauschen mit 300 km/h zum Flughafen.
